Focus on Selma - Tennis

Selma has many assets. One of those is tennis.  Donnie Ellis and Baxter Stinson are the pros. They do a fantastic job recruiting new people to the game as well as helping all levels of players excel.

This past summer a new group started playing with Baxter as our coach.  Wednesday night and Friday morning clinics.  Lessons....

In the fall,  part of that group joined the more seasoned players at a tournament in Fort Morgan/Orange Beach.

The seasoned players results were stellar. My group - stomped.

We celebrated Baxter's Birthday....

Lacey - Ford's Nursery

I am blessed to have a beautiful (inside and out), talented sister in law.  After the arrival of Ford, she resumed blogging. I enjoy reading all of her posts. The latest focuses on her creation of Ford's nursery.  It is one of the most sumptuous sanctuaries for a baby that I have seen.  Below are a few pics.

If you want to see before/after pics and more, check out her blog post - laceyandmac.blogspot.com

The Circus

When is the last time you went to the circus?

I was told by my Mother that she took me when I was approximately 4 or 5 years old. I have no independent recollection.

The "memory" I associate with the circus is a faded plastic circus cup with a bright yellow handle. This cup belonged to the McGoverns, family friends. I used it every time I went to their house - which was often.

It did not look exactly like the above but this is as close as I could find under the "vintage circus cup" category on google.

At any rate, DeeDee, Paul's Mother, emailed a couple of weeks ago to invite us with the children to the circus.  We accepted and Friday night all enjoyed the "greatest show on earth". Here are a few pics:

Kylie(my niece), Sam and Fair

The Big Cats did not appear to relish life as stars of the Big Ring
Lots of  clawing and growling at their trainer.

They no longer sell the plastic cups of my childhood memories - so Fair settled on an elephant snow cone.
Maybe it will be good for eating cereal or ice cream this summer.

Acrobatics

Elephants were fabulous

My favorite act of the night - 8 motorcycle riders in the Iron Ball at one time

Fair - could not hold off the sleep
As she said by the second half - "Mama, it is past my bedtime and I did not have a nap."

A Week of Grace

Most of our life activities fall under the general category of ordinary. However, God's grace makes the ordinary extraordinary.

This week, every day this week, multiple times a day this week God has shown his grace making my ordinary EXTRAordinary.

So what are some examples??

Sunday, Paul and I cleaned out the sheds for hours without a cross word. After two large trips to dump all of the unneeded items we stored for months (more likely years), the sheds are now organized! I always love crossing a long standing chore off the "need to do" list but in this instance it was more - I actually enjoyed cleaning out the sheds WITH Paul. That my friends is only by the grace of God.

Monday began working on taxes. Numbers don't necessarily keep me interested for long.  So you can imagine two days worth. However, I managed to turn them in on Wednesday along with a budget worksheet to Paul for the coming year.  The grace to complete a task. (Regarding the budget worksheet, those who know me well are now commenting to themselves, "grace? more like a miracle!")

Friday afternoon Sam and I joined my cousin Richard in a training session of Richard's new dog, Gayle. Richard threw the dummy a far distance on the field. Then both Sam and Gayle ran after it. A heart warming sight to see a boy and a dog simply running side by side.

Saturday blessed by being with friends most of the day and a night capped off by the return of our dog, Bailey.

Completion today with a wonderful praise and worship day at the Roost.

What ordinary activities of your week have been made EXTRAordinary by His Grace?

8 YEARS AND COUNTING

Paul and I married on January 10, 2004.

We met almost four months earlier. A mutual friend, Cathy Henry, arranged a date in Selma. At the time, I was living in Greensboro and Paul in Demopolis.  He tried to contact me several times prior to the September 12, 2003, date; however, I had lost my cell phone. Maybe the lost cell phone should have given him a clue or two about me. At any rate, he finally called me at my office.  The two things I remember from that conversation was Paul telling me "I play both kinds of music, country and western" and that he was going to dress in black on our first date in honor of Johnny Cash who had died that week.  That gave me a clue or two about Paul.  I still went on the date though --- think I was scared of Cathy!

The next day I attended an Alabama football game with my father and sister, Rayne.  On Sunday, he called wanting to know if I would be interested in riding to Lowe's in Tuscaloosa so we could buy the ceiling fan I wanted for my new rental. He would install it for me.  Yes, our second date was Lowe's and Outback.

According to Paul, "I was a better person than Mother Teresa" (I saved the email) and the puzzle piece that had been missing in his life (I saved the memory).  When he first asked how soon do you think we can get married (this was week three since initial introduction) and I said at least six months or people will talk about us. His reply "I just don't think I can wait that long!" No way I could refuse all that enthusiasm. (I now know that it was because he would begin playing golf tournaments again in the Spring and needed to get this marriage deal sealed before then.)

A month later while on his initial beach trip with my fam, he asked my father's permission for us to marry.  My sister Rayne tells the story of that weekend best - we'll leave it for another post.

In the eight years since we married, we've changed towns, jobs, houses, gained relatives, lost relatives and the biggest transformation of all, became parents to Sam and Fair.

Thank you to Cathy who introduced and all of the friends and family who have supported us along the way!

Biblically, the number eight symbolizes circumsicion of the heart through Christ and the receiving of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 2:28-29 and Colossians 2:11-13) It also symbolizes new beginnings, the establishment of the new order and first in a new series of abundance.

My prayer for our eighth anniversary, is that we grow in a deeper relationship with Christ and each other establishing a new order characterized by a circumcision of our hearts and overflowing abundance.

Christmas Past....

Tonight the last of the Christmas decorations found their way to the attic.  Images of the holiday swirled through my mind like the stripes on a candy cane. Before tying the bow on the box of images that will not be reopened until next year, I thought I would share some of my favorites:

Leika's definitely had the Christmas spirit this year.

Christ Our Savior is Born!!

Santa arrived at Leika's to greet the children on the last day of school.
Leika's stockings - contents given to a charity each year
